​An immersive and wild experience on the Island of Portland. This unique course is taught within and along the coastal line of the sea. Combining coasteering, foraging and wild nutrition. ​​

Daniel, a qualified expert in Coasteering will guide us as we navigate the rocks, the water and the edges where so much interesting seaweed and sea life is available to witness and taste.

 

Tasha his co-teacher holds 15 years experience of wild food, wild tending and working with these amazing indigenous ingredients in professional kitchens. Tasha will guide connecting to the amazing power of the sea, what types of seaweed there are and how to identify them. Learn recipes to use in both sweet and savoury dishes.  Tasha will share recipes for how to eat different seaweed and shelfish easily and commonly available as well as coastal plants that can be harvested and used in cooking. 

 

 

After a decent break after lunch, where you can rest or have a sauna (see below for details) we will cook dinner together with the ingredients we have foraged. During this session Tasha will go through how to dry and preserve seaweed safely to have in the larder for the whole year. Finishing in a celebration of delicious feast of wild delights that have been harvested in the morning. 

 

You will recieve all the recipes and identifications notes as an e-document after the course to refer to for years to come.

  • The cost of this course includes lunch and dinner. The course is based in Portland, Sweet Hill Farm which is owned and run by Daniel's family. We will start at 9.00am (on the dot!) As its low tide,  and will end once we have eaten dinner at 7.00pm ish.  

     

    Included in the price,  is  one nights stay PP, camping on the farm on the friday evening before the course, you will need to bring your own tent, breakfast supplies and eating utencils including mug. You can extend your stay by contacting 07359538929 for a small extra cost. 

     

    After the coast steering/ Foraging session and a hot lunch there will be time for relaxing in the afternoon before the late afternoon evening workshop. There is a sauna onsite and if you would like to take advantage of this  please bring £10 pp extra  to pay for this. 

     

    Wetsuit, boyoncy aid, Helment, First Aid Support are all included. The event is covered for insurance. by Daniel for the Coasteering and Land, Food, Medicine for the foraging and cooking. 

     

    PLEASE NOTE: You must bring trainers that you are happy to get wet to wear coasteering, with a good Sole to wear in the water. You can wear wet shoes but often the soles are not as good at gripping the rocks and therefore an old pair of trainers are much more preferable. 

     

    Shoes are the most important pieces of equipment so please do not forget to bring any otherwise you may not be able to join in on the first part of the morning. 

     

    If you would like to take some of the fresh ingredient home, if you bring a cool box, with a ice block and some tupper ware you can take home samples of things to cook in the days after the course.

    Encase of stormy weather: If the event should be cancelled due to stormy weather deeming it unsafe, we will offer a reschedule of the course or a refund minus the booking fee of £5. You can transfer to any course of a similar value offered by Land, Food and Medicine. And refunded the difference or pay the diffference depending.
